Crack damage identification of a thick composite sandwich structure based on Gaussian Processes classification

Structural damage of composite materials used in aeronautics and aerospace has attracted increasing attention. Efficient reliable Health Monitoring (SHM) systems are required to provide a probabilistic interpretation diagnostics. In this study, crack identification thick sandwich structure based on Gaussian Processes (GP) classification is reported by numerical simulations. The goal the study obtain data-driven detection. investigation carried out healthy damaged status panel with honeycomb core modelled ANSYS. Instantaneous signals different frequencies applied finite element analysis performed vibration responses both statuses. Features extracted Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) train test GP model assess health structure. Impacts mother wavelet DWT, likelihood function inference method, as well iteration numbers investigated accuracy. pertinence sensors located at positions also investigated. This proposed method effective for crack-type detection studied It expected be suitable more complex structures.
